The Bendjo Academy of Serbian Dance and Culture was founded on the principle of establishing a community-oriented environment, purposed with embodying and preserving Serbian heritage. Since 2019, we have continually proven our commitment to community and multiculturalism through numerous performances at local and charity events, international collaborations, and the adoption of foreign choreographies taught by relevant experts. We believe in leading by example, which is why we are constantly proactive in our efforts to connect and collaborate with fellow multicultural initiatives. Based in Melbourne, we are a group of passionate and dedicated individuals, hosting events and activities all year round. We welcome anyone who wishes to join our family and embrace our mission. Slobodan Bendjo did exactly that when he founded the Bendjo Academy with the resolve to share his love for Serbian dance and culture. With decades of experience choreographing and performing, as well as his charismatic and infectious personality, Slobodan perpetually seeks not only to embrace with Serbain culture, but to all cultures and communities. He once bewildered an audience at a Chinese New Year festival by giving our introduction in fluent Chinese! Although only one example of his ability to bond and kindle friendship, Slobodan’s journey is full of many such stories, and he invites anyone who shares his passion to join him and his vibrant academy.Kolo is a traditional dance performed by people from Southeastern Europe. Generally, the dancers will form a circle, by locking arms or holding a belt to form an unbreakable chain. The dance can be performed in a group ranging from 3 people to several dozen. Every region you can find a specific dance, which is all very unique, as every dance tells a different story. Watch us perform to experience each story.
